Bachelor of Science in Plant and Soil Sciences with a Soil Science Concentration
Advisor : Dr. David Crouse
I plan to use my degree to:
Once the job market stabilizes, I plan to hopefully get a job working in the field of Soil Science, specifically in agricultural research or somewhere in the field of soil physics.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at NC State was:
There’s a lot that I enjoyed during my time here at NC State. I enjoyed being in a department where every professor, student, and staff member were nothing but personable, friendly, and always down for a good conversation. Being able to take classes with the legendary Dr. Bob Patterson, getting dirty in the Soil Physics Lab with Dr. Heitman and Adam Howard, and getting to saunter into the Undergraduate Office to talk with Brittany and Dr. Crouse are definitely some highlights. I also made friends that will last a lifetime! Some of my favorite highlights though, were when myself and 2 friends, Betsy Murphy and Catherine Bentulan gave Dr. Crouse a “Happy Birthday Grandpa” card after he complained about turning the big 5-0 (Sorry Dr. Crouse, you know I had to mention it)! Somehow, by doing this our degrees were not revoked, and instead Crouse had a good laugh about it. Another favorite was becoming one of the first Departmental Undergraduate Ambassadors, and being told I have seniority in the department – truly an honor.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My parents, Barbarann and Joey. Thank you both for the emotional, physical, and financial support alongside the unconditional love you have shown me and the faith you’ve had in me. The rest of my family, Aaron, Seth, Leanna, Mindy, and Lindsey, thank you all too! I have received great support from Dr. Heitman and Adam Howard in the Soil Physics Lab, alongside Dr. McLaughlin and Jamie Luther in the Erosion and Sediment Control Lab. Friends such as Jalynne Waters, Betsy Murphy, Catherine Bentulan, Jackson DeWeese, and Matthew Kelly– thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown me over the years, whether it be in the classroom setting or making coffee for students late at night. My roommate all throughout college, Alex Bonesteel, thank you for putting up with me while you were going through the same experiences as me. Last, but certainly not least, thank you to Dr. Crouse and Brittany DesLauriers for your support academically and personally. Without these people, I would not be the person I am today and my college experience would have been so different. The people mentioned have held me up and believed in me. Thank you.
Now that I have completed the program, I’m most looking forward to:
While of course, I am looking forward to graduating and moving on up in the world, I am also looking forward to growing myself as a professional and as a person. I cannot wait to see what the world has in store for me as I move into the field of soil science. I also look forward to the day I can come back to Williams Hall and share my new experiences with the people who helped me along the way.
